The Dangers of Not Understanding Your Own Computer
By David on Mar 18, 2008 in Computers
One day, you are perplexed by something on your computer. “It doesn’t work”, you say, however you have that sneaky hunch that perhaps it is just something you don’t know. You wonder if there is something wrong with your computer or perhaps you’re just being stupid.
You have a few options when this happens:
- You go running around on Google, searching and searching, for your answer. You end up trying different kinds of keywords. Nothing works. You find tons of forum threads where people have gotten CLOSE to your problem, but nothing spot on.
- You call a “geek” member of your family. You feel bad about bothering them, but you hope they won’t mind the interruption.
- You hire a geek. They come over to your house or office. They sit down and either fix your problem or leave you in a more confused state than when you started. They probably will even try to upsell you to other services, trying to scare you about all those rogue viruses and spyware infections on your PC. Plus, you’re out an inordinate amount of money for your troubles.
- You throw your hands up in disgust and just remain resigned to the fact that your PC just got the better of you.
Any of this sound familiar?
The Hidden Dangers of Misunderstanding
Today’s world revolves tightly around technology, and your computer plays a huge role in that. The computer you are using right now is your #1 tool to partake in all that this world has to offer.
But, what if you continually find yourself in one of the positions above? How will that help you?
The answer is: IT DOESN’T.
See, the power of your computer to add to your life is practically limitless. But, if you don’t really know how to put this tool to use for you, you’re stumped.
Others will surpass you. You will be confused. And, quite possibly, you’re going to be taken advantage of.
There is a WHOLE INDUSTRY out there designed to take advantage of computer users who are not themselves computer literate. They might not think they are taking advantage of you, but when you get right down to it, their entire business is dependent on the fact that you remain in the dark on dealing with your own computer.
And what will they do with you in the dark?
- They’ll try to sell you security products you may not even need
- They’ll try to make the computer seem as complicated as your car, and charge you similar prices to do simple things to your computer. How would you feel about paying somebody $100 to simply run anti-virus on your computer? Well, there are technicians doing this every day.
- They’ll try to sell you various optimization utilities designed to “speed up your PC”.
- They’ll throw new software at your problem, saying you have to upgrade in order to fix your problem. Cha-ching for them.
Now, I’m certainly not trying to convince you that everybody in the computer repair business is shady. Probably a majority of them are not. But, here is the simple fact:
That which you don’t know can turn around and make you the effect of it!
Or said another way:
That which you truly know cannot ever get the best of you. You are in control.
The Key Is Learning
Getting educated in your computer is valuable to avoid all of the hassle I mention above. But, you might think:
- Learning about the computer is just going to be over my head
- Learning is boring
- No books, please. I’m a visual person and I need somebody to SHOW me things.
Well, I’m here to change your mindset. That very device you don’t understand - your computer - can also serve as your access to a world of education like no other. One without any schedules. One that requires you go no nowhere. One where you DO have access to online instructors that will NOT talk down to you, and can provide one-on-one assistance. And, lastly, one which gives you access to a community of like-minded people there to help and be helped.
PCMech University is designed for multiple kinds of people, and we have courses designed specifically for people like yourself. PCMech University is all about teaching people about their technology so that they can put that tech to use in ways they never thought possible.
Imagine being able to deal with your computer in a knowledgeable, confident way. You’d never need to hire a technician to come to your house and make you feel stupid. You’d never need to bother your family computer guy. You’d be able to use your computer to accomplish things. Manage your life better. Get organized. Learn. Perhaps even make money in ways you never thought possible.
This is my passion, and this is the philosophy behind PCMech University. I invite you to take a look at our program.
We’ve been teaching people computers online for over 10 years. But, NEVER like this. Until now.
