The PCMech Story - And How You Can Benefit From It
By David on Mar 24, 2008 in Site News
In my last article, I touched on how I have been able to make a living on the Internet. Today, I want to tell you, in brief, the story of myself and PCMech, and how you can benefit from it.
My name is David Risley and I am the founder of PCMech and PCMech EDU. I started in the field of internet business back in 1997 with the formation of PC Mechanic. It started out as a hobby for me. See, computers were a HUGE hobby for me and I was having a hard time getting good information about how to do things on my PC. Much of the information out there assumed I already knew things that I didn’t know. So, PC Mechanic (now referred to as PCMech) was born. By 1998 or so, I decided to make a side business out of it. I transferred the site to a web host which allowed me to run advertising on the site.
From that day, I have been making money with PCMech. Sure, it started out small. By simply writing good content for the site and participating in a few free promotional opportunities, people were noticing PC Mechanic and visiting the site. This provides EYEBALLS - a key component to anything you ever want to do for money on the Internet. Soon, PCMech was getting mentioned in the Wall Street Journal and being featured on TechTV. It was getting mentioned in PC World, PC Magazine, even Playboy! Of course, it’s not like I had paparazzi or anything, but just the idea that I was getting ANY print in the traditional media for a site I was essentially running from a bedroom was…well, cool.
Even though I was not doing tech support for a living, I was able to translate my hobby into a business on the Internet. That business runs very much like a magazine, except that it is all digital. Eventually, I expanded into other areas. I began offering how-to products in the new PCMech online store, the tutorial on Build Your Own PC being the most praised. I also brought on a few more people - not as employees, but simply as fellow hobbyists. Our bond was that we had fun with our computers. Nothing more.
On another line of work, I had also expanded my offerings into consulting. I was setting up websites for people and doing custom PHP development and database development. During all this time, I continued to run PCMech. So, essentially, I was turning into a jack of all trades. I was quite adept at the technical side of computers. I was quite adept at the technical side of putting up a website and programming it to meet user requirements. And I was pretty adept at running an online publication.
Before too long, I decided my personal life needed some…shall we say - enhancement. Shortly thereafter, I met my future wife, Malika. Three years later, we are married and we just welcomed out newborn daughter, Elyana, into the world. All throughout, I continue to run PCMech and my primary business, PC Media, Inc. I have been able, thus far, to provide a nice lifestyle for my young family through nothing but my online endeavors.
Which brings me to my newest online endeavor: PCMech EDU.
As I said above, PC Mechanic got it’s start simply by showing other people how to deal with their own computers. We are good at instruction. We got our start in online education and the writing style has been praised for it’s plain-English approach. From that day on, I have been active in everything from computer technology, web design, web development as well as almost all facets of Internet business. My experience is pretty varied.
And I am bringing all of this to PCMech EDU.
Sure, there are other online training programs out there. But, I would venture to say you will find nothing that offers such as variety of information. We cover not only your computer itself and how to make the most of it, but also how to put up a website (basic as well as advanced) and how to make money on the Internet. Even as PCMech EDU kicks off, we’ve got some great content in our system. But, you are going to see a LOT of value out of what I have in store in the next few months.
And with our charter membership being offered for a limited time, this information is accessible for a price that is FAR less than what you will find elsewhere. In fact, go out and see what you’re going to be paying for any information on Internet business. You would be floored at the money that people charge and get away with for that kind of information.
Well, I am confident that the PCMech story will sell itself and that our members will find value in our offering. Which is why I am offering EDU at the low price that it is.
